Pixorium Success Story: Creating The Lankford Manor Cookbook
By Pixorium Client, Courtney Lankford
Pictures fade and memories pass with the loss of each generation. This past fall, I decided it was time to put together a book that represented a family legacy: the Lankford Manor in Tifton, Georgia. It was an institution in Tifton for over 60 years and it has played a tremendous role in the lives of my entire family. With the passing of my grandfather came the loss of precious stories of the restaurant and of times long ago. I decided that before any more memories were lost, I would preserve them by creating the book, The Lankford Manor Cookbook: A History in Recipes and Photos.
The process was definitely a labor of love, but one I took joy in doing. I sorted through countless old photographs, newspaper clippings, and menus and turned to the wonderful people at Pixorium to help me scan everything. They immediately took a great interest in the story I was trying to tell, putting me at ease with leaving all of these memories in their possession. They did a terrific job scanning and creating digital images for me to insert into a template I was using through Blurb, an online company that enables you to design and publish professional quality books.
In the end, I had created a true treasure. I had a book that included everything (the stories, pictures and recipes) in one place. When I surprised my entire family with the 74-page book on Christmas morning, everyone instantly broke down in tears. This book means so much to my family and me. I am so happy I took the time to put it together so that the story of the Lankford Manor and the Lankford family will be able to be told for generations to come.
I encourage everyone to take the time to preserve his or her family history. It can be as small as having images scanned to prevent their loss in the event of a disaster to creating a book like the one I did. We never know what we might encounter or when we might lose our family storytellers, so it is important to act now to save these priceless memories. I am so thankful I took the time to make this book as it acts as a guide to channel the memories of my family and keep the recipes of my grandfather and my great-grandmother alive forever. Thank you to Pixorium for making this process so easy and for supporting me
