About Life - A Photographer's Journey

“To see people, their places, and our world, has been a life-changing opportunity. My camera lens allowed me a vision of our world that seeing just with my eyes, even with glasses, could not.” — Ron Goldstein

It was April 2020.

I’d called Ron to check in – we were in the first months of COVID. I’d worked closely with him and his cousin, Barry, the year before on an extensive family history book. Ron replied with an email, which included the following:

“I have also been going through 1000’s of photos for the new photo book which I will want you to get involved with once I finish pulling the photos.”

Actually, Ron was reviewing 30,000 photos.

Such is the reality for the serious amateur photographer.

In January 2021 Ron’s email said:

“I finished my deletes/ maybes and final selection.  The total of the finals was 287 and maybes 85.  No doubt you and I together can reduce the number some but perhaps you can see if the present number is workable….”

And with that, we began creating About Life – A Photographer’s Story, a book of the best of Ron’s lifetime of photos.

What makes About Life more than just a gorgeous coffee table book is Ron’s clear purpose for the piece, which he explains here.

It was such fun to work again with Ron and award-winning graphic designer Rick Robbins to make Ron’s vision a reality – from concept to layout to pressroom to finished book.

What I didn’t know…

…was Ron’s plan for a large portion of his books: a donation to the America’s ToothFairy Tomorrow’s SMILES campaign with all the proceeds going to support Tomorrow’s Smiles, a nonprofit delivering dental services to teens in need of critical, life-changing dental care. For donations of $350 or more, the donor receives a copy of About Life as a thank you.

Sharing your passion and doing good. That’s a great story.
